The Anti-Christ?

1 John 4 says,  "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.  Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."

As younger person I always thought this referred to Jesus coming in the flesh as the Christ-child; perhaps almost by definition, all Christians agree that Jesus was born.  As the chapter continues "Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God", I think it refers more to confessing that the Spirit of God can dwell in our hearts and lives, lead us, and keep us free from the beggarly elements of sin.  Perhaps it extends the definition of antichrist more than I'm initially comfortable, but it seems to follow that without that indwelling, this is the spirit of antichrist.
