Counting the Cost

Luke 14:28-33

The decision to follow Christ demands sincerity and committment on the part of the believer.  The Word of God instructs us to “count the costs” before making a conscious decision to repent and ask God to sanctify us.

In this passage of scripture the “counting of the costs” is compared to a man who wants to build a tower.  This builder is wise to count the costs before proceeding with construction.  We, likewise, when enlightened by the Gospel of Christ should consider the requirements, the costs, that God has established for our salvation.

When the Holy Spirit convicts us for our sins, God requires us to repent of all sins committed against Him.  Secondly, God requires us to surrender our will and to receive His Holy Spirit into our life.  God’s Holy Spirit will guide, teach, and discipline us as we move forward in faith, serving the Lord.

I encourage you to count the costs to serve God, and to consider that the blessings of God far outweigh the temporary pleasures that a life in sin affords.  God’s peace and joy awaits those who make a full commitment to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
